Breast Screen NSW - North Coast

BreastScreen NSW North Coast provides free breast screening (mammograms) for all women aged 40 years and over, with particular targeting of women aged between 50 and 69 years.

The Service covers the North Coast Area with four permanent screening facilities and one mobile unit. The permanent sites are located at: Tweed Heads, Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, where appointments are available all year round. The mobile unit visits communities in outlying areas on an annual rotation.

For an appointment or general enquiries, telephone 13 20 50 (for the cost of a local call).

Why is having a breast screen a good idea?

The best time to treat breast cancer is when it is still very small. It may be years before you or your doctor notice that anything is wrong. A breast screen ( mammogram) can find problems early. A breast screen can't stop you from getting breast cancer, but it can give you a better chance of successful treatment through early detection.

Who is at risk of getting breast cancer?

Women in NSW currently have a 1 in 9 chance of developing breast cancer at some stage in their lifetime. The biggest risk for breast cancer is being a woman over 50.

Women's Health Nurses can also give advice in regard to breasts.
They run clinics in many locations across the Northern Rivers area.
