Le Lavandou - Rupert BunnyHealthier people living healthier lives

Welcome to the Women's Health Program Website

The Womens Health Program provides services to improve the health and well being of women of all ages living on the North Coast of New South Wales. This website aims to provide you with information and contact details for the wide range of services you can access for advice, help or treatment for health problems and to improve healthy living.

Services are provided in Community Health Centres, Hospitals, Special Projects, Non-Government Organisations and other agencies.

The 'Services' and 'Programs and Projects' sections will provide you with contact details, information about a wide range of women's health issues and tell you about some local initiatives and projects.

You can also look up 'Location of Services' to find information regarding how to access Women's Health Clinics across the area.

The NSW Department of Health ‘Strategic Framework to Advance the Health of Women’ suggests that the health of women is determined by a range of social, environmental, economic, cultural and biological factors. Many health programs and policies tend to emphasize the biological aspects of health care, focusing on the bio-medical models of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of an individual’s ill health and overlook the other factors which impact on the health of women.

The World Health Organization identifies the following social factors that impact on health:

  • poverty and socio-economic status
  • social exclusion
  • living environments
  • life experiences
  • stress
  • addiction
  • education & training
  • lack of transport
  • work and unemployment
  • nutrition and food.

The way forward in Women’s Health, therefore, requires a commitment to addressing the much broader range of factors influencing the health of women. In order to do this effectively, Womens Health on the North Coast works collaboratively with women in the community, other government departments, non-government agencies, advocacy groups, general practitioners and the private sector.
