Implementing Tooty Fruity Vegie Program
In this section we provide a timeline and links to materials for getting your Tooty Fruity Vegie Project started in Primary Schools in your area.
In New South Wales Primary Schools write their Management Plans in Term 3 for the following year so you need to recruit the schools before the end of Term 3.
Below is a suggested timeline outlining the planning steps prior to the implementation phase of the project.
FIRST YEAR
August
Get partners on board with commitment to implementation
- Meet with local Dept of Education District Office(s) to gain approval to approach schools. They will be in phone book.
- Present Tooty Fruity Vegie to Area Health Service Cluster Directors/ Manager of Health Promotion to seek support for input from other health professionals: Cmmunity Nutritionists, Health Promotion Officers, Dental Therapists, School Nurses.
- Present at District Principals meeting (if timely).
August/September
Recruit schools
- Send out invitational flyers and program overview brochure through DET District mailout. Give closing date. See Overview

- Select 10 schools per FTE Project Officer. Inform schools of decision, ask for nominated school contact person.
October
Set up teams
- Meet with school P&C. See P&C Agenda
