Outpatient Dispensing & Drug Supply
Hospital pharmacies dispense medicines for outpatients, where the drugs are only available through hospitals. These are generally for specific medical conditions, for patients attending registered outpatient hospital clinics.
Outpatient dispensing is available at the following hospitals:
- Bellingen Hospital
- Casino District Hospital (Limited service only).
- Coffs Harbour Hospital
- Grafton Base Hospital
- Kempsey Hospital
- Lismore Base Hospital
- Port Macquarie Hospital
- Murwillumbah Hospital
- The Tweed Hospital
Dispensing prescriptions includes checking the dose, possible interactions with other medicines and whether the patient has had any previous reactions to the medicine. Due to these requirements, delays in processing prescriptions may be unavoidable, especially if discussion with the doctor is required. It may also be necessary to prepare the medicine individually for the patient. This is usually very time consuming, and advance notice is requested.
