Looking After Mothers During Breastfeeding

  • Sleep promotes breast milk production so enjoy a daytime sleep if you need it.

  • Enjoy a healthy diet and include plenty of water and some extra healthy snacks such as cheese and biscuits, banana smoothie or sandwich for extra energy, calcium and protein needs.
Visit this Victorian Health Department website for more healthy food tips

  • Minimise tea, coffee, alcohol, and exposure to smoke.  Make sure any medications used  (including vitamins, herbs, painkillers, other drugs) are safe for use during lactation.
