Nestled between the magnificent tablelands, rainforests and beaches of the New South Wales North Coast, Grafton Base Hospital (GBH), is an Australian Council on Healthcare Standards accredited, 107 bed acute care hospital, servicing about 50,000 people of Grafton and the surrounding district.
GBH provides emergency, medical, surgical, paediatric, maternity, high dependency, palliative care, renal, oncology and day surgery facilities as well as some inpatient and outpatient specialist services including (but not limited to) physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, oncology, diabetes and asthma education and nutrition and dietetics. In 2006, GBH acquired a CT scanner for the radiology department, enabling additional diagnostic tests to be carried out on site.
Grafton Base has a high commitment to further education and professional development training. Internally, GBH provides and promotes regular in-service training and actively encourages participation in external courses and study. WE are an accredited training hospital with links to Southern Cross University ,
Griffith University , New England University and TAFE .
GBH employs a range of nursing staff including Registered Nurses (RNs), Enrolled Nurses (ENs), Trainee Enrolled Nurses (TENs), Assistant In Nursing (AINs), post-graduate students and reconnect nurses as well as hosting university nursing students. GBH also makes provision for locum placements, medical and pharmacological students and other Allied Health professionals and students. Affordable accommodation is offered on a short term basis to allow staff time to obtain accommodation in the community. This is provided in the accommodation centre which has private rooms, shared bathrooms, kitchen facilities, lounge area and a pool.

GBH is a friendly rural hospital, where nursing staff have the opportunity to work in different departments and consolidate their skills within a supportive environment. Staff have the opportunity to participate in one of the many activities or outings provided by the social club, relax and unwind in the staff relaxation room or catch up on some reading or research in the hospital library and computer rooms. GBH is committed to providing best practice health care, services and facilities for both clients and staff by adopting an integrated, holistic and confidential approach to nursing practice.
