About the facility

The town of Kempsey is situated in the Macleay River Valley, 480 kilometres north of Sydney.

Kempsey Health Campus consists of Kempsey District Hospital and Community Health Centre. Kempsey District Hospital is a Level 3 facility with 86 beds that provides a 24 hour service including emergency department, maternity, medical, including intensive care and surgical services (mostly day surgery provided by visiting specialist surgeons) and paediatrics. There are medical officers on site 24 hours per day in the emergency department.

Allied health services are available including physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

The hospital intake is three in January/February and two in July.

The program consists of a 12 month contract.

The new graduate program at Kempsey provides:

  • Three days general and nursing orientation conducted at ward/area level
  • Orientation program, workshops and ward/unit based in service education
  • Clinical guidance and support at ward/unit level by preceptors

Rotations

Clinical rotations are within various wards within the campus. These may include medical, surgical, emergency department, operating theatre and recovery, intensive care or mental health.
