About the facility

Port Macquarie Base Hospital is a 168 bed general hospital. The hospital provides a range of services including medical, surgical, coronary and intensive care, emergency department, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology and radiotherapy, palliative care, rehabilitation, operating theatres and mental health.

  • Four study days covering topical themes.
  • During the program there are planned de-briefing sessions with both formal and informal sessions built in to the year.

Currently all of the graduates who choose to stay are employed within the hospital on completion of the program, a large proportion of these are employed on a permanent contract. Some graduates choose to retain casual status.

In addition Port Macquarie Base Hospital is developing second year programs in the following specialties – critical care, renal nursing, oncology/palliative care and mental health nursing.

Accommodation

There is no accommodation on site but there are private rentals within Port Macquarie and nurses may be willing to share.

Social activities

Staff at the hospital plan regular activities for their specific units. Each year there is either a General Hospital Revue or Ball. The graduates on the program often have a social event following their study day.
