About the facility

Coffs Harbour Health Campus (CHHC) is a large 220 bed rural tertiary referral centre. It provides a variety of speciality services including surgical, medical, critical care, emergency, operating theatres, paediatrics, rehabilitation and more recently cancer care and interventional cardiology.It is closely affiliated with Bellinger River District Hospital (BRDH). BRDH is a 34 bed acute hospital providing medical , day surgery, emergency, aged care, paediatrics, community and mental health services.

 

Number of New Graduate positions

Coffs Harbour Health Campus and Bellinger River District Hospital offers 24 new graduate positions each year which includes a new graduate midwife.

The New Graduate Program is designed to foster a culture of learning and enquiry. It is supported by a coordinator, a graduate handbook incorporating clinical competencies, a series of study days which focus on clinical assessment and skill development, and a mentorship program.

Additional clinical support is available within speciality units in the form of preceptors, Clinical Nurse Educators, experienced Registered Nurses and Nursing Unit Managers.

 

Rotations

The New Graduate Program is conducted over a 12 month period, comprises three rotations, inclusive of Bellinger River District Hospital, four supernumery orientation days and monthly debriefing sessions incorporating reflective practice.

Preferences for clinical rotations are offered and accomodated where possible.

Intakes

CHHC and BRDH supports two intakes per year in January and February 2010

Second year graduates are encouraged to complete a post graduate course through the NSW College of Nursing or other recognised educational facility.

CHHC and BRDH is unable to provide on-site accommodation

Social activities

A meet and greet morning tea is organised for each new graduate intake to promote collegiality and networking. The CHHC also has a social club that organises social evenings and events throughout the year.
