:: Area Manager Cancer & Palliative Care Services
Maureen McGovern
Maureen trained as a registered nurse at St Vincent's Hospital Bathurst followed by midwifery at Nepean Hospital Penrith. After working at Westmead in high dependency surgical and midwifery she found her niche in Oncology. She worked in radiation and medical oncology before moving into palliative care. Maureen holds qualifications in oncology, palliative care and management including a Master in Nursing. She has worked in a variety of settings including hospital, community and primary care.
Maureen moved to the North Coast in 1993 as the Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant after holding similar positions in Sydney. This move was before the word sea-change became the buzz word but decided that a more relaxed environment was the way forward. She then moved into hospital management in 1999 holding the positions of Director of Nursing/Executive Officer, Bellinger River District Hospital and Dorrigo Multi-Purpose Service and most recently Executive Officer, Kempsey District Hospital.
Maureen says she had been waiting for the position of Area Manager Cancer, Palliative Care and BreastScreen to become available as she could combine her expertise in oncology and palliative care with her management experience. She also loves a challenge and sees the development of cancer services a wonderful opportunity.
The relaxed lifestyle of the North Coast and the proximity to two major capital cities makes living on the north coast a wonderful option. You can be in Sydney or Brisbane in an hour with the benefit of affordable housing, coastal or hinterland living: whatever takes your fancy!
