TRAINING AND CAREER PATHWAYS We are starting out as two small integrated radiotherapy centres with big plans to develop a network of three treatment centres. Over time our network will extend from Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour and Lismore with a total of six Linacs, superficial and brachy therapy capabilities. We intend to provide compassionate multidisciplinary care characterised by innovation and excellence, delivered in a relaxed, patient-focused atmosphere.
Our initial plans include the capability to deliver Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and use inverse planning approaches for a range of cases from the first day we treat patients. Image guided Cone beam CT is also one of the tools we will have available to ensure a high standard of treatment. As well as using the latest equipment and treatment approaches we plan to make extensive use of innovative techniques to deliver our service, such as using an electronic workflow environment. So although our centres are separated we will be able to work as a single integrated team and seamlessly work on the data from any case at any site.
Complimenting our RT team will be a dynamic, progressive and practical physics group committed to getting the most from the technology and putting it to clinical use while maintaining the highest standards possible. It's our intention that all staff will be working on research projects in a collaborative environment. The North Coast Cancer Institute has a proactive Medical Oncology team with a strong clinical trial focus and our aim is to follow that lead and allow Radiation Therapy to become an active clinical trial contributor and participant. Research in general will be a high priority and there is an expectation that all RT staff will be actively involved in research projects.
