:: RT Job Profiles
So you can get a picture of the RT structure in the Institute and where you might fit into the picture we have put together the following profile. This is a snapshot of how the Institute is currently staffed we anticipate that expansion and the addition of a third site will create numerous prospects for advancement, diversity, or specialisation.
Area Manager RT - Stuart Greenham
As the name suggests, an RT with operational responsibility for the RT departments across the whole area. Stuart will move between both centres on a regular basis and help establish and maintain consistent practices at all sites.
Deputy Chief RT - Award level 5
The Deputy Chief RT, Craig Everitt is responsible to the Area Manager RT for much of the detailed day to day operational issues at Port Macquarie. Craig's is a key role and although having a number of administrative duties is active clinically. It is expected that the Deputy Chief will have the opportunity to step up into the manager position in an acting capacity during the Managers absence. The plan is to eventually have a deputy chief at each site.
Senior RT - Award level 4
Currently two senior RTs are based at each site. One senior in charge of treatment and the other all aspects of CT, planning and mould room. The senior RT people swap responsibilities on a 6-12 monthly basis.
Clinical Tutor and Research RT - Award level 4
Currently one RT tutor supports the two centres. The tutor Georgina Neill is located in Coffs Harbour. The role is largely in keeping with the Department of Health's expected duties/responsibilities of RT Tutors which broadly speaking consist of the following activities.
Oversee and coordinate the RT students on clinical placements.
Act as mentor for Professional Development Year (PDY) staff.
Develop and conduct a continuing education program for RTs .
Manage the in-service training of RTs.
Develop an introduction and orientation program for new staff.
Coordinate projects for postgraduate students.
Information Management, and Quality RT - Award level 4
Matthew Hoffman is the Information Management Research and Quality RT. Matthew's role has been established across both sites. This role is technology focused with Information Technology, statistics and quality processes as the main aspects. This key role has helped establish the Impac Mosaiq Information system and configured it for electronic work practices. There is a multitude of directions in which this role can be further developed and as the centres grow it would be expected that the Information Managment and quality roles may need to be split into separate roles
Radiation Therapists
Award levels 2 -3 depending on experience.
Five RT positions are currently established at each site. However with the growth of the practice it is expected more will be required. Each and every RT will be encouraged to participate in research projects with the intention that all staff have the opportunity to publish and present.
Radiation Therapist (PDY) Award level 1
Each centre is accredited for up to three PDY positions. At present there is one PDY position for each site, we anticipate that in 2008 we will take on another one or possibly 2 PDY's at each site.
