Mental Health Inpatient Units
The North Coast Area Health Service (NCAHS) operates five acute inpatient mental health units. These Units provide intensive psychiatric care for people who are experiencing mental illness and mental disorder. This is a 25 bed acute inpatient unit situated at Lismore Base Hospital. The clinic is able to accommodate both voluntary and involuntary patients.
Tweed Valley Clinic (07) 5506 7875
This is a 25 bed acute inpatient unit situated at The Tweed Hospital. The clinic is able to accommodate both voluntary and involuntary patients.
Coffs Harbour Mental Health Inpatient Unit (02) 6656 7969
This is a 30 bed unit located at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus. The unit is able to accommodate both voluntary and involuntary patients.
Kempsey Mental Health Inpatient Unit (02) 6562 0256
This is a 10 bed acute inpatient unit located at Kempsey District Hospital, it is only able to accommodate voluntary patients.
Port Macquarie Mental Health Inpatient Unit (02) 6580 1075
This is a 12 bed acute inpatient unit located at Port Macquarie Base Hospital. The unit is able to accommodate both voluntary and involuntary patients.
Child and Adolescent Inpatient Care:
Wherever possible, children and young people requiring inpatient mental health services will be cared for in general hospitals with Child & Family Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service or Youth and Family Mental Health support. NCAHS is a part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services-Northern Network (CAMHSNET) which includes both the Hunter / New England and the North Coast Area Health Services.
NCAHS has an eight bed Child and Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Unit on the Lismore Base Hospital site and also has access to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Statewide Services which include:
- The Children's Hospital, Westmead - Redbank House
- Rivendell Adolescent Unit, Concord West
- Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick
- Coral Tree, Macquarie Hospital, North Ryde
