Impotence and Ejaculatory Disorders

Here is a link to an excellent site which offers a wide range of information about sexual problems such as impotence and erectile dysfunction, hosted by the Australian Governments "Health Insite"

Diabetes and Impotence

Impotence or decreased sexual function problems occur in up to 50 percent of men with diabetes.

Why is sexual dysfunction, including impotence, such a frequent problem in men with diabetes?

The reasons vary, but are related to the complications frequently found in people with diabetes:

  • Vascular disease, a frequent diabetes complication, can cause reduced blood flow, which can make attaining or maintaining an erection difficult.
  • Neuropathy can cause nerve damage that can affect sexual function.
  • Hormonal imbalances which may be found in people with diabetes can play a role.

What are some of the other causes of sexual dysfunction, either in men who have diabetes or those who don't?

These can include:

  • Hormonal imbalances or side effects of certain medications.
  • Psychological issues, such as stress, which can frequently cause sexual function problems, especially for those between the ages of 50 and 70.
  • Vascular disease, nerve damage or other physical problems not caused by diabetes.
