The Fatherhood Festival in Bangalow
From small beginings the Fatherhood Festival has grown into an amazing annual event held in Bangalow,on the Fathers Day weekend each September.
Organisers described the event thus:
The Fatherhood Festival aims to do all this with its rich, three day program of concerts, comedy, art and conversations. These events will touch your hearts and stimulate your mind. We are an independent, not for profit organisation that believes in valuing fathers and in the power of sharing our stories.
Listening to our father stories without judgement is a powerful tool for healing. It is for men who want to father, men who want to talk about their own fathers, what they have learned from them and the joy and pain they have felt. Women who want to share stories: how their fathers have shaped their lives and how fathering impacts on their own families.
We have collected hundreds of children’s stories, 'Messages to Dads', telling the difference their father has made in their life by his daily presence or his absence.
As men become aware of the impact they have on their children, whether they live with them or not, this creates a change in priorities in favour of children and is part of the positive social change that the festival team is supporting.
