Lismore Base Hospital is situated in one of the most attractive areas in Australia. It is an acute referral hospital of 200 beds, serving a population of approximately 150,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW.
Lismore Base Hospital has 77 Specialist Visiting Medical Officers and 30 Visiting General Practitioners, 17 staff specialists and 18 accredited Registrars. All major specialities and most sub specialities provide excellent training for medical graduates wishing to pursue careers in metropolitan and rural general practice and for graduates preparing to enter specialist training programmes. The hospital is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked to a local helicopter retrieval service. It is also an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the Universities of Newcastle, Queensland, NSW and Sydney. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Resident Medical Officers.
Good single and shared accommodation is available close to the hospital. Recreational and educational facilities include a swimming pool and library. Lismore is situated close to world renowned beaches (Byron Bay & Lennox Head) and is in the heart of world heritage listed sub-tropical rainforests.
The medical staff consists of Interns, Resident Medical Officers, Registrars, Career Medical Officers & Staff Specialists. These Medical officers are on secondment, employed and on accredited training programs in the following specialities Anaesthetics, Paediatrics, Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgery, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine.
