PHYSICAL ACTIVITY GUIDES

"Live It Up"  Physical Activities for Adults on the North Coast

North Coast Area Health Promotion Service has compiled a physical activity directory made up of locality guides covering many local areas from Tweed Heads in the north to Port Macquarie in the south. The directory is a quick and easy way to help you find an activity that is close by and suits your needs. It lists a diverse range of physical activity options suitable for all fitness levels and includes activities such as Aqua classes, badminton, dance, gentle exercise, Tai Chi, tennis and walking groups to name just a few. Finding suitable activities in your local area can sometimes be a challenge. Most people are often unsure of what types of activities are out there, where to find them and how to access them.

The Australian Government Physical Activity Guidelines for adults suggest that 30 minutes moderate intensity activity on most days of the week will help keep your heart, lungs, muscles and bones in good working order. Regular physical activity, along with balanced healthy eating will help support a positive sense of wellbeing, no matter what age you are. It is now well known that regular physical activity can help prevent some illnesses and reduce the risk of heart disease, type II diabetes, osteoporosis, colon cancer, unwanted weight gain and injuries from falls.
