The North Coast Area Health Service (NCAHS) provides a broad range of specialty health care services to coastal and rural communities in Northern NSWThe Area Health Service has facilities located as far south as Laurieton and as far north as Tweed Heads. These facilites look after the health care needs of nearly half a million people (Transport and Population Data Centre Popluation Projections October 2007). The Area Health Service employs close to 9,000 people including a medical workforce that accounts for 3.7% (282) of the NCAHS workforce. However this does not include visiting medical officers (452) or contract medical officers (91) at 55 public health care facilities.
