Position Description
Purpose of Role:
The duties of a Patient Transport Officer include the routine and non-emergency transportation of hospital patients utilizing basic life support skills. Transportation can include single driver transports (no escort if appropriate), or transportation with an appropriate escort. The decision whether or not a nurse accompanies a patient is made by the Nurse Manager.
A Patient Transport Officer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle, maintaining appropriate stock levels, for carrying out equipment checks, and other associated duties.
Role Responsibilites:
- Transport patients within clinical network with or without a nurse escort.
- Maintain vehicles and associated equipment.
- Assist the patient from bed to stretcher/wheelchair, to vehicle, and then to destination.
- Organise patient transport bookings.
- Maintain Patient Transport Service records and statistics.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team situation.
- Demonstrated computer literacy with experience in word processing, data base and spreadsheet management (Excel or similar).
- Commitment to Quality Work Practices and Procedures.
- Current NSW or National Drivers Licence and Safe driving record.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Standard of medical/ physical fitness and strength appropriate to perform the physical activities and duties of a Patient Transport Officer with weight proportionate to height.
- Ability to pass Medical for Public Transport Driver.
- Prepared to undertake Defensive Driver Training.
