Position Description

Purpose of Role:
Provide appropriate occupational therapy services for inpatients, outpatients and community clients as referred. Co-ordinate service provision with the multi-disciplinary team. Assist with administrative duties within the Occupational Therapy Department. Assist to oversight the work of the Occupational Therapy Aide.

Role Responsibilites:

  • Participate in the delivery of clinical services through assessment and treatment of: * inpatients of the acute and rehabilitation units, Coffs Harbour Health Campus * adult outpatients and community clients
  • Deliver occupational therapy clinical services and contribute to comprehensive care plans through: * functional assessments, including medical, physical, cognitive, perceptual, social and emotional considerations, and management of identified issues * prescription of equipment as aids to daily living and education re: use, including provision of loan equipment and advice on equipment supply external to the Area Health Service / Area Network * conducting home visits, recommending and arranging home modifications as necessary * provision of education and self management information to patients and their carers * monitoring outcomes of interventions and referrals to ensure prompt and efficient service delivery
  • Ensure effective clinical communication through: * liaison with appropriate health professionals, OT Aide, community agencies, PADP, DVA, clients and their carers re client management * participation in patient case conferences, ward meetings and family meetings as required * documentation in patient records of assessment, intervention provided and future management plans
  • Ensure effective professional communication and development through: * participation in performance management planning and professional supervision * participation in OT staff / department meetings, Network OT meetings and inservice training * attending seminars and conferences relevant to the provision of occupational therapy services at Coffs Harbour Health Campus * accessing clinical information through the internet, department resources, colleagues and hospital library as required * supervision of occupational therapy undergraduate and work experience students in consultation with the senior occupational therapists
  • Assist in the efficient and effective use of the Occupational Therapy Department resources by: * participating in the planning and development of OT services * identifying opportunities for improvement in clinical practice and participating in quality improvement activities * maintaining statistical records * maintaining and monitoring equipment loan pool records * advising the senior occupational therapists of the need to purchase/repair/replace treatment media and equipment pool items

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy with eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Occupational Therapists - NSW.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement in the planning and implementation of occupational therapy treatment programmes for adults.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to organise work schedule for self including the delegation of suitable tasks to the OT Aide.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
