Position Description
Purpose of Role:
North Coast Cancer Institute (NCCI) is a multidisciplinary regional cancer centre. The Registrar will provide on-site medical support for the outpatients and inpatients under the Radiation Oncologists and to gain education and experience in Radiation Oncology
Role Responsibilites:
- Daily review of incoming correspondence, including blood pathology and radiology reports.
- Participating in and conducting outpatient radiation oncology clinics, including clinics via videoconference. This may also require travel by driving.
- Typing of letters for patients, as well as entering patient data into NCCI and hospital databases and ensuring patient information is entered into database
- Organising, attending and presenting patients at all multidisciplinary team meetings/clinics, x-ray and other clinical, research, quality or educational meetings.
- Booking of new and follow-up patients into radiation oncology outpatient clinics, radiotherapy simulation and treatment.
- Undertaking the pre-clerking of radiation oncology patients in NCCI and peripheral clinics as directed, ensuring all documentation is prepared.
- Liaising with other radiation oncology departments as required in relation to transfer of patients between services
- Ensuring all documentation is available for patients booked into radiotherapy treatment at other sites.
- Review of cancer outpatients (including unscheduled patients and patients presenting to emergency) as required, including assistance at outpatient clinics for radiation oncology primarily and medical oncology and haematology as directed.
- Direct admission of cancer patients as necessary and subsequent daily review and documentation of a management plan, and organization of patient
- Liaison with general medical practitioners, hospital VMO’s, Private Hospitals, resident medical officers, cancer care co-ordinators and relevant specialists with regard to the care and treatment of Cancer Services patients at NCCI, base hospitals, peripheral clinics and other radiation oncology departments.
- To provide consults to inpatients as requested and liaise with Specialists.
- Participate in and organise quality improvement and quality assurance activities for radiation oncology patients
- Performance of procedural interventions (eg peripheral venous line or catheter insertion and removal) as indicated.
- Participation in and providing staff and patient education, including responsibility for medical grand rounds. discharge or transfer
- Participation in and leadership of research activities as directed, with the aim of publishing at least 1 first author peer reviewed journal article every two years.
- Participation in development of the NCCI Clinical Stream as directed.
- Organisation and co-ordination of transfusion of blood related products.
- Organising external tests eg. PET Scans, MRI
- Processing approval for IPTASS as required.
- Provision of prescriptions including PBS authority prescriptions for patients attending for radiation and chemotherapy.
- Supervision of administration of drugs and IV contrast for patients under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist.
- Ensure excellent communication with specialists for all clinical matters.
- Supervision of resident medical officers responsible for oncology patient care. 30. Other duties as requested by Head, NCCI Department of Radiation Oncology
- Attend cardiac arrest calls and maintain basic and advanced life support skills.
- Participate in the hospital's disaster response and fire evacuation plans
- Relief of other CMOs, Registrars, Fellows and RMOs as required and participant in on-call as required
- Other duties as requested by Manager, Area Director Cancer Services or NCCI Department of Radiation Oncology
Essential Criteria
- Relevant medical qualification and be registrable with the NSW Medical Board
- Willingness to participate in 6 monthly performance reviews
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Medline and the Internet.
- Commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuing professional development including commitment to multidisciplinary patient care and cost-effective health care delivery.
- Experience/or Interest in research, teaching and quality assurance activities, particularly oncology related and an iinterest in education of other staff and the public
- Previous experience in and procedure skills including ALS, paracentesis, pleurocentesis, catheterisation, cannulation and spinal tap.
- Holds or eligible for a NSW drivers licence
