Position Description
Purpose of Role:
This is an active clinical position that also has responsibility for clinical governance and leadership within the Richmond and or Tweed Byron Network. There is responsibility with maintaining key relationships with and Carers, Service Partners and other stakeholders. It will participate in education programs aimed at mental health clinicians. The position works closely with the Area Clinical Director Mental Health Services.
Role Responsibilites:
- PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Attend and maintain an active role in meetings specific to mental health services as considered appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective two-way referral networks with general practitioners and other medical staff.
- Research and Teaching
- Teaching and supervision of:
- Medical students;
- Residents Medical Officers (in accordance with NSW Institute of Medical Education and Training requirements);
- Psychiatry trainees (in accordance with IMET and RANZCP requirements);
- GP Procedural Trainees in Mental Health (in accordance with North Coast GP Training requirements);
- Education of other Mental Health staff and or key service partners as required.
- Participation in ethically approved collaborative research projects is encouraged.
- Contribution to Organization Goals:
- Encourage a broad understanding of Health Service delivery matters ensuring an awareness of the collaborative roles of community-based services, general practice, in-patient services and other government and non-government organizations.
- Be committed to effective, safe, informed, ethically and culturally respectful psychiatry practice.
- Work towards the goals and strategies of the NCAHS Mental Health Services Plan and NCAHS Strategic Plan.
- Performance Management:
- Participate in performance management plan and performance reviews.
- Continuous Quality Improvement:
- Participate in the process of continuous quality improvement (EQUIP).
- Industrial:
- Compliance with Policies and By-Laws of the Health Service is mandatory.
Essential Criteria
- Registered or registrable in NSW as a medical practitioner.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical services and leadership in acute mental health multidisciplinary teams in both community and in-patient settings.
- Demonstrated high quality written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals and agencies.
- Knowledge of Legislation and Regulation, NSW Health Policy Directives affecting clinical practice and employment in NSW.
- Current unrestricted NSW Class C Drivers Licence or equivalent.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in medical administration and the supervision of medical staff.
- Demonstrated interest in research and medical education.
- Skills and experience in medical epidemiology
- Computer skills - basic word processing and electronic mail.
