Position Description
Purpose of Role:
The new NUM position will be responsible for the planning, commissioning, organising and directing of all activities of the nursing service within the new NCCI at the Lismore Base Hospital site. The position will also be required to develop operational and clinical procedure and to manage the professional and operational aspects of the facility.
The role will be responsible for optimising standards of nursing practice within the department consistent with the aims and objectives of the North Coast Cancer Institute (NCCI) and the Nursing Service in line with that of the North Coast Area Health Service and New South Wales Health.
The primary objective of the role is to ensure an optimal standard of quality patient care and continued improvement of consumer outcomes through:
Effective clinical and corporate governance;
Effective human and financial resource management;
Promotion of positive consumer outcomes towards patient care.
Role Responsibilites:
- Provide professional leadership and support to the nursing team.
- Initially to develop operational and clinical procedures in consultation with nursing and relevant other staff and ensure procedures are keep up-to-date in line with ¡¥best practice principles¡¦.
- Provide direction, coordination and supervision of Nursing and Volunteer services including: review clinics/outpatients chemotherapy services/radiotherapy services; planning and coordination of workloads; attend multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Develop and maintain professional competencies including the management of performance appraisals and the creation of learning opportunities for staff.
- Foster and participate in research activities within the Centre and across the other NCCI sites
- Initially the NUM position will be responsible for the planning, commissioning, organising and directing of all activities of the nursing service within the new NCCI at the Lismore Base Hospital site.
- The position will also be required to develop operational and clinical procedure and to manage the professional and operational aspects of the facility.
- Act as the project coordinator for the NCCI Lismore project including assisting with the commissioning and decommissioning of the old and new buildings, driving change management, being the liaison person between the staff at the Cancer Care and Haematology Service and the PP&D committee and commissioning group
- This position would be essential for ensuring that all the milestones are met, consultation processes are inclusive and communication channels are effective. They would also work closely with the Executive Director Corporate and Financial Services and the Department of Commerce
- Once the centre has been commissioned the primary objective of the role is to ensure an optimal standard of quality patient care and continued improvement of consumer outcomes through: „X Effective clinical and corporate governance; „X Effective human and financial resource management; „X Promotion of positive consumer outcomes towards patient care.
- The role will be responsible for optimising standards of nursing practice within the department consistent with the aims and objectives of the North Coast Cancer Institute (NCCI) and the Nursing Service in line with that of the North Coast Area Health Service and New South Wales Health.
- Ensure staff maintain their professional skills through education and meet the mandatory education program requirements .
- Work within the statutory regulations and area policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement a quality framework for Cancer/Haematology Services reflective of public policy trends, inclusive of performance indicators and within the EQuIP framework.
- Monitor the financial resource needs of the service.
- Ensure performance systems are in place to manage workforce, finance, activity and quality
- Committed to ¡¥best practice¡¦, Quality Improvement and evidence based practice.
- Promote a multidisciplinary team approach.
- Develop team relationship and performances through initiating effective communication mechanisms. Manage difficulties to achieve positive outcomes, identify problems, take action to remedy, provide guidance and support.
- Participate in service development planning/proposals/business plans.
- Implement and monitor continuous service improvement.
- Manage on a day-to-day basis the human resource issues for nursing staff including rostering and ProAct.
- Monitoring the supply and use of stock and supplies, and monitoring the cleaning service.
- Manage emerging challenges and opportunities.
- Ensure all staff have a defined role and responsibilities within the workplace.
- Responsible for environmental safety, monitoring the use and maintenance of equipment
- Any other responsibilities/duties deems relevant with mutual agreement between the NUM and Deputy Director of Nursing ¡V Medicine and Critical Care
Essential Criteria
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications and/or experience in cancer nursing including radiation oncology
- Proficient interpersonal, negotiation, representation, communication and liaison skills including computer literacy in Word, Excel and other relevant software applications.
- Demonstrated commitment and experience in leading Quality Improvement
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of the current National and State Health Strategies related to the provision of Cancer services
- Current Registration in NSW with the Nurses Registration Board (List A) or eligible for same
- Demonstrated leadership ability including change management, service development and human resources management
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and act on financial data and information
- Current Drivers License
