Position Description
Purpose of Role:
The Hospitalist (Senior Career Medical Officer) is the Hospitals' primary Medical Officer providing inpatient care where appropriate to support VMO General Practitioners optimally care for their patients. This will include: admission; assessment; care planning; clinical service delivery; discharge planning and discharge.
Clinical Service delivery specifically involves the following:
Participation where appropriate in the admission, care planning, monitoring, evaluation, discharge planning, and multi disciplinary systems and meetings;
Involvement and competence in a range of emergency procedures;
Appropriate referral and planning for continuing care;
Referral to other health services as appropriate;
Referral to Medical Specialists;
Referral to Allied Health and Community/Primary Care Services.
Management of patient care where appropriate (on behalf of VMO GPs). This might also include referral to relevant Specialist Clinicians.
Input into clinical governance and quality and safety processes for the Hospital.
Role Responsibilites:
- The efficient and effective delivery of clinical patient care services in accordance with North Coast Area Health Service, Richmond Network Hospital's policies, standards and community needs.
- Performance of clinical duties and responsibilities at a Senior level with minimal clinical supervision.
- Provision of safe, appropriate, patient focussed, outcome directed, co-ordinated quality care that meets professional standards and is based on best practice standards.
- Full assessment and care co-ordination and care management of all patients and response to inpatient emergencies.
- Effective working in partnership with all service partners so that integrated and networked services are delivered that facilitates patient care and working partnerships.
Essential Criteria
- Medical Practitioner with unconditional registration with New South Wales Medical Board.
- Minimum seven years post graduate experience as a Medical Officer with relevant post graduate qualifications and experience in Medicine. Skills in emergency care of patients.
- Demonstrated capacity to perform clinical duties and responsibilities at a Senior level with minimal clinical supervision.
- Demonstated ability to provide safe, effective patient care working independently and without direct supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi disciplinary team with excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to Teaching, Research and Quality.
