Position Description
Purpose of Role:
The staff specialist radiation oncologist position will provide a combination of clinical, research, quality improvement, education and cancer stream development roles. The position will be based primarily at Coffs Harbour initially.
Role Responsibilites:
- Clinical duties including providing radiation oncology care at Coffs Harbour Health Campus for the core malignancies of head and neck, CNS, haematological, lung, GIT, and gynaecological malignancies, and benign disease. The position may also provide weekly generalist clinics at Grafton Hospital, with referral of non-core malignancies seen at either site to the relevant radiation oncology sub-specialist. Core malignancies will be reviewed by Director NCCI Department of Radiation Oncology from time to time
- The development, implementation, evaluation and research of evidence-based guidelines and multidisciplinary care models for these core malignancies, as well as providing radiotherapeutic care by adhering to evidence-based Australian, NSW and NCCI radiotherapy protocols.
- Leading the NCCI research portfolio, including development of an area-wide radiation oncology research program incorporating radiation oncologist, radiation therapist, physicist, nursing and allied health research. The applicant may Chair the Radiation Oncology Research Committee. Portfolios will be reviewed by the Director of NCCI. Research is considered a priority for NCCI, and there will be an expectation for staff specialists to publish a minimum of 1 first author peer reviewed journal article per two years. Protected time will be provided for research.
- Participation in and leadership of education and quality activities.
- Provision of leave relief for the other radiation oncologists employed across the NCCI, and provision of on-call, emergency and in-patient care.
- Participation and leadership in the NCCI Clinical Stream and various committees (eg RANZCR, NSW CI) as directed.
- This position may include travel (driving) to Port Macquarie, Lismore and Grafton on a regular basis.
- Other duties, as specified by Head, Department of Radiation Oncology.
Essential Criteria
- Eligible for registration with New South Wales Medical Board and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) (Faculty of Radiation Oncology). Applicants must be eligible for full Medical Indemnity insurance and EPA license for radiation oncology.
- Demonstrated ability to providing evidence-based multidisciplinary care in a radiation oncology setting.
- Commitment to actively participate in and facilitate quality improvement processes including audit of patient care
- Knowledge and ability to manage patients according to Australian, NCCI and NSW-wide radiotherapy protocols as required.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication and organisational skills, negotiation skills, teamwork ability, and collegiality with all staff.
- Knowledge and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary and public education and research.
- High level of computer literacy and ability to use software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, or similar applications.
- Eligible for a NSW driver's license
