Position Description
Purpose of Role:
The position of VMO Paediatrics is to enhance the paediatric and neonatal services to the patients of the CHHC and support to other clinicians in order to ensure safe, quality care is provided to inpatients and outpatients. Support and facilitate the development of a culture of learning and best practice consistent with the teaching role of CHHC.
Role Responsibilites:
- Perform the services of a Paediatrician and Neonatologist with VMO privileges at Coffs Harbour Health Campus, within the role delineation of the facility.
- Participate in the on-call roster for Coffs Harbour Base Hospital and provide Specialist services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients
- Maintain current professional development and certification requirements as per the RACP and NCAHS
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, Department of Health policies and NCAHS policy and procedures
- Participate in service planning, implementation and evaluation within the NCAHS
- Ensure patient focused service and care is provided across the continuum of care. Participation in risk management and quality programs of the NCAHS and the Coffs Harbour campus, including IIMs, RCA and M&M meetings.
- Ensure quality and standards of care are met within own clinical practice • Ensure the safe clinical practice by Junior Medical Staff through adequate supervision and education • Facilitate appropriate communication within the Coffs Harbour Health Campus and the NCAHS, across all disciplines • Utilise appropriate information systems to enable informed decisions to be made on matter within the area of responsibility • Ensure complete medical records are maintained for all patients under own care
- Ensure patient care reflects current best practice guidelines and is evidence based.
- Participate in relevant clinical education programs as appropriate for Physicians, including medical students, junior medical staff and specialist training.
- Promote professional development of nurses, allied health, and other staff as relevant
- Be aware of and understand relevant OH&S principles and practices, and actively promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
Essential Criteria
- Fully registrable with the NSW Medical Board
- FRACP or equivalent as provided for under the HIC Act 1973
- Experience as a Specialist Paediatrician
- Experience as a Neonatologist in a level 2 Neonatal Unit
