Position Description
Purpose of Role:
To provide critical care to patients at Port Macquarie Base Hospital and provision of care to ward patients after hours.
Role Responsibilites:
- To provide care to patients in the Intensive Care Unit at Port Macquarie Base Hospital under the supervision of the Intensive Care Specialist.
- To provide support to the Critical Outreach Service.
- Conduct daily rounds of patients in the consultants’ care.
- Participate in the ‘on call’ roster for the specialty and retrieval services.
- Participate in the teaching of medical students.
- Successful completion of six months in Port Macquarie can lead to further tertiary training at the Prince of Wales hospital Intensive Care Unit Sydney.
- Responsible in conjuction with the appropriate Specialty Registrar for the supervision of JMOs in the care of ward patients after hours.
- Initiate investigations, chart medication and document condition changes and management plans in patients’ charts.
- Supervise the work of the JMOs allocated to the ICU.
- To participate in the regular clinical meetings, educational activities and other post-graduate meetings.
Essential Criteria
- Medical degree registerable in NSW.
- 2 years post graduate experience.
- Previous training in Intensive Care.
- Intention to progress towards the Fellowship for the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
