Position Description

Purpose of Role:
To provide critical care to patients at Port Macquarie Base Hospital and provision of care to ward patients after hours.

Role Responsibilites:

To provide care to patients in the Intensive Care Unit at Port Macquarie Base Hospital under the supervision of the Intensive Care Specialist.
To provide support to the Critical Outreach Service.
Conduct daily rounds of patients in the consultants’ care.
Participate in the ‘on call’ roster for the specialty and retrieval services.
Participate in the teaching of medical students.
Successful completion of six months in Port Macquarie can lead to further tertiary training at the Prince of Wales hospital Intensive Care Unit Sydney.
Responsible in conjuction with the appropriate Specialty Registrar for the supervision of JMOs in the care of ward patients after hours.
Initiate investigations, chart medication and document condition changes and management plans in patients’ charts.
Supervise the work of the JMOs allocated to the ICU.
To participate in the regular clinical meetings, educational activities and other post-graduate meetings.

Essential Criteria

Medical degree registerable in NSW.
2 years post graduate experience.
Previous training in Intensive Care.
Intention to progress towards the Fellowship for the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
