Position Description
Purpose of Role:
The VMO shall be professionally responsible for the proper clinical management and treatment of public patients under the officer’s care in the Hospital and shall attend patients admitted under the officer’s care at a frequency appropriate to the patients’ clinical needs.
Role Responsibilites:
- The Visiting Medical Officer will provide emergency and out of hours care to hospital inpatients as per the on-call roster.
- The Visiting Medical Officer shall participate in an on-call roster for the provision of medical services as may reasonably be required by the Area Health Service, and when so rostered the officer shall be readily contactable at all times and be able and prepared to attend the Hospital concerned within a reasonable period of time.
- The Visiting Medical Officer will provide primary assessment, triage and management of all patients presenting to the Emergency Department and follow up medical care to those requiring admission.
- The Visiting Medical Officer shall participate in committees expressly established or authorized by the Area Health Service, where reasonably required by the Area Health Service for the proper and efficient functioning of the Hospital concerned.
Essential Criteria
- Registration with the NSW Medical Board.
- Greater than five (5) years post graduate experience as a medical practitioner with broad hospital experience or FRACGP.
- Experience working on-call roster with the ability to respond to Hospital emergencies within a reasonable time frame.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Gained EMST accreditation or a willingness to work towards completing EMST course.
- Evidence of continuing medical education.
