Position Description

Purpose of Role:
The provision of medical clinical services and consultancy service in geriatric and rehabilitation medicine to inpatients and community in the Coffs/Clarence Network of the North Coast Area Health Service.

Role Responsibilites:

  • Provision of medical services to clients within the Aged Care Services target group within services to North Coast Ara Health Service (Coffs/Clarence Network).
  • Provision of medical services to stroke patients admitted to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus, Rehabilitation Unit. Inpatient consultancy in regard to geriatric medicine.
  • To take a lead role in the planning and developement of a Rehabilitation Stroke Unit at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
  • Consultation with and provision of professional developement to local General Practitioners.
  • Instigation and participation in research programs including direct involvement in clinical indicators/quality improvement programs plus undergraduate.
  • Provision of education and provision of medical supervision to post graduate medical students, Resident Medical Officers and involvement in medical training programs. Medical support for nursing and other health care personnel.
  • Involvement with development of Aged Care Services/Rehabilitation Services and planning processes across Coffs/Clarence Network.
  • Provision of high quality care and case management for patients with chronic and complex disease during their admission to Hospital and through return to the community.
  • Liaison with multidisciplinary team, maintain links with hospital and community services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain records and provide reports as required, collect and report Departmental and Community Health statistics.
  • Attend case management and other meetings as required.
  • Provide non-inpatient clinics as required.
  • Perform other duties not inconsistent with the award. Agreement of Terms of Employment as may be directed or implied from time to time.
  • Responsible to Professionally - Director of Medical Services. Operationally Manager Community & Allied Health, CCN. School of Rural Health, Coordinator regarding student placement.

Essential Criteria

  • Specialist qualifications in Geriatric Medicine and /or Rehabilitation Services, Fellowship of Royal Australasia College of Physicians or equivalent.
  • Post graduate experience in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Eligible for registration with NSW Medical Board.
  • Ability to work within and lead multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional education and clinical quality.
  • Current Drivers Licence, eligible for use in NSW.
