Diabetes Education

Diabetes education provides people with diabetes the skills and knowledge to successfully integrate diabetes into their lifestyle and manage their diabetes to the best of their ability.

Many Community Health Centres throughout the North Coast Area Health Service provide diabetes education and management services within a diabetes team involving Dietitians, Diabetes Educators and Podiatrists in consultation with the persons General Practitioner.

These diabetes education and management services offer some or all of the following:

  • Information on healthy eating, exercise, monitoring of your blood glucose levels, prevention of complications and foot care.
  • Individual & group consultations
  • Children’s services
  • Diabetes in pregnancy
  • Starting Insulin
  • Changes in diabetes control
  • Information on supplies, resources and support services.
