Child and Family Therapy
Allied Health workers employed by North Coast Area Health include speech pathologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapist, dietitians, social workers, psychologists , child protection counsellors, sexual assault counsellors and genetic counsellors.
These workers work together in teams to help families and carers, with a range of child health and development concerns or problems.
Speech pathologists help with problems with feeding, speaking, listening, communicating and learning. Physiotherapists help with physical development and mobility. Occupational Therapists help with play, self-help and learning problems.
Social workers and psychologists help with family, behavioral or emotional problems.
Specialist counsellors provide assistance with issues of child abuse and / or neglect, sexual assault and inherited disorders.
They work closely with other health professionals as required such as Aboriginal Health workers, nurses and medical practitioners or specialists.
Types of services provided include screening and assessment services, one to one treatment or education sessions, group treatment or education sessions.
Health workers will refer on if required to other services and will also provide support and advocacy for children and families if required.
