Child and Family Health Nursing
Child and Family Health Nurses, who are registered nurses with specialised qualifications and experience in Child and Family Health nursing, provide preventative health care and address the health and development issues of infancy and childhood.
Child and Family Health nurses offer a range of services including health and developmental advice and information; assessment of growth, hearing, speech, vision and developmental progress of children; strategies to promote normal development and behaviour; parenting education and support; identification of postnatal depression and child abuse. They work closely with General Practitioners, and other community and specialist services.
The Child and Family Health nurse offers all new parents a home visit. Other services are offered on a one to one basis either a drop in or by appointment, groups, by home visiting or by telephone. Parent groups offering support and education provide an important social network reducing parents' isolation and increasing knowledge about their child's health and development.
