North Coast Cancer Institute

The North Coast Cancer Institute is part of the North Coast Area Health Service. It was formed recently to provide integrated cancer services to the North Coast of New South Wales. For the first time a population of approximately 470,000 people spread across 500km of coastline will have easy access to a radiotherapy service.

The NCCI is on track to open two new facilities in early 2007 at Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. A third centre at Lismore is in the early planning stages. Coffs Harbour will be fully operational by March 2007 and the centre at Port Macquarie by April 2007

The NCCI will embrace

  • the two integrated cancer units being built at Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour,
  • the planning for a similar unit at Lismore, and
  •  all the various services which make up a spectrum of approaches to dealing with cancer.
Within the Institute, once it is fully established, will be
  • medical oncology,
  • radiation oncology,
  • haematology,
  • palliative care and
  • breast screening.
