Better Beat
A progression of the Phase 2 outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program, and includes exercise components of flexibility, strength and cardiovascular fitness. The classes are suitable for people with cardiovascular disease or risk factors. We aim to teach the correct execution of exercise with special emphasis on breathing techniques and posture. The program will assist participants to improve cardiac health.

Low Impact Aerobic
After a 5-8 minute warm-up, the class consists of low impact moves of varying intensities using all the major muscle groups for at least 30 minutes. The remainder of the class is performed on a mat and incorporates a variety of conditioning exercises concluding with 5-8 minutes of stretching.

Stretch and Strengthen with yoga principles
Is a program designed for participants who want a gentle form of exercise with an emphasis on core stability. This class is appropriate for all age groups, however it is still manageable for an older age group or those who haven’t exercised for a while. In this form of exercise attention is put on body alignment and stamina, and the integration of breath and movement. Controlled breathing techniques and relaxation techniques are also taught in each class.

Since October 2001, CHEGS has hosted and subsidised a 'Active and Loving It' fun day at the Department of Sport and Recreation facility at Lennox Head with a capacity group of 60 attending. All physical activity participants and their friends are invited to attend and are offered a variety of supervised and assisted activities such as archery, canoeing, sailing, rope climbing, tennis and bike riding . The popularity of this day has encouraged us to make this an annual event.
Our nutrition and weight management course was reviewed in 2003 with the intention of placing more emphasis on physical activity. The new course is run by registered Fitness Instructors in a small group environment (6-8 participants) over seven weeks. Instructors are employed for up to four hours per week to deliver education and to engage participants in appropriate levels of physical activity while providing motivation and support.
In 2003, CHEGS delivered in-house training to its Community Educators on Memory Enhancing Workshops for older Australians. Currently, CHEGS offers this program as a four-week workshop to the community. The purpose of this program is to provide information regarding normal memory changes that occur with ageing and advice and practical solutions for enhancing memory.
