Maintaining Good Health

Research shows that people who are regulary engaged in a healthy lifestyle have a reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia and injury due to falls.

Some of the biggest risk factors for developing disease are factors you cannot do much about - getting older and your genes! so it is important to do what you can with the things you can control- your lifestyle and habits.

By following these seven principles of good health you can lower your risk and improve your health:

  • Mind your Brain - when the mind is active, the brain is protected
  • Excercise your Body - excercise regularly, be active and maintain flexibility
  • A healthy Diet - A good diet is essential for good health - reduce saturated fats, have sufficient vitamins and stay hydrated
  • Have regular Health Checks - See your doctor regulary,follow medical advice and request regular review of medications
  • Be active in your Social Life - stay connected to your social network and engage in regular social interaction
  • Avoid Bad Habits - Avoid smoking, have a moderate intake of alcohol, avoid stress and have a good nights sleep
  • Protect against Falls - be alert against falls, avoid injury from falls, keep the environment free of obstacles
